Explore Raigad fort: Raigad is a hill fort situated in Mahad, Raigad district of Maharashtra, India. It is one of the strongest fortresses on the Deccan Plateau. Many constructions and structures on Raigad were built by ChhatrapatiShivaji when he made it his capital in 1674 upon being crowned the King of the Maratha Kingdom, which later developed into the Maratha Empire, eventually covering much of western and central India. Shivtharghal: ShivtharGhal, also known as Sundarmath, (Sundarmath means Beautiful Monastery), is a cave, about 34 km from Mahad, near Barasgaon, Maharashtra, India. Samarth Ramdas dictated Dasbodh to Kalyan Swami. Samarth Ramdas lived here for about 22 years. It is believed that this is where the first meeting between Maratha king Shivaji and Samarth Ramdas took place.

Harihareshwar Shiv Mandirand Beach:Harihareshwar is a town in Raigad district, in Maharashtra, India. It is surrounded by three hills named Harihareshwar, Harshinachal and Pushpadri. The river Savitri enters the Arabian Sea from the town of Harihareshwar. Towards the north of the town is the temple of Lord Harihareshwar, said to have been blessed by Lord Shiva. Hence Harihareshwar is often referred to as Dev-ghar or “house of God”. It is also known as DakshinKashi.

Deveaagar beach:Diveagar (Dive Agar) is a village located in ShrivardhanTaluka, Raigad district in the Indian state of Maharashtra, approximately 170 kilometers south of Mumbai. The region includes a fishing settlement, a beach, a temple, local businesses engaged in coconut and beetle nut tree farming, and some tourism businesses such as restaurants, cottage rentals and hotels, and six villages

Day 3Murud- Janjira- Virar

Murud- Janjira fort:The word Janjira is not native to India, and may have originated after the Arabic word Jazeera, which means Island. Murud was once known in Marathi as Habsan (“of Habshi” or Abyssinian). The name of the fort is a concatenation of the Konkani and Arabic words for Island, “morod” and “jazeera”. The word “morod” is peculiar to Konkani and is absent in Marathi.

Alibag fort: The first mention of Kolaba fort is when it was chosen by ChatrapatiShivajiMaharaj to be fortified after the whole of South Konkan became free. The work of constructing the fort started in 19 March 1680. In 1662, he strengthened and fortified Kolaba fort to make it one of his chief naval stations. The command of the fort was given to Darya Sarang and MainakBhandari under whom Kolaba Fort became the centre of the Maratha attacks on British ships. Kolaba Fort was captured by ChatrapatiShivajiMaharaj.

Birla Ganesh mandir:20 Kms. away from Alibag after revdanda is a small village named ‘Salav’ on the alibaug – roha route. There is a temple on a hill top near Salav village. VikramIspatcompany, a part of Birla udyog group has built this temple called ‘Birla Mandir’. This temple is between the VikramIspatcompany and its beautifully located residential colony. It is a temple built in pure milk white marble and its dome can be seen from a long distance also. It can be reached by road or by climbing the steps. While climbing the temple steps one is always mesmerized by the landscape. On both sides of the steps is green velvet carpet of grass and beautiful flowers which will keep you spell bound for a minute.

Jarmarkar museum:Karmarkar Museum is located approximately 18 Kms from Alibaug on the Alibaug-Rewas Road. It is located in Sasawane. Sculptors are made by Late Mr. NanasahebKarmarkar which is displayed in his own bungalow. There about 150 beautifully carved sculptures displayed here. The exhibition is open the whole day throughout the week and entry fee is just Rs.5/-. Karmarkar’s sculptures are a pleasure to see. There are approximately 200 of them in this museum with HiraKolin and Shankhdhwani being the most noted ones. Any one can spend an hour or two here. Any person who likes sculptures and historical things or appreciates art would love this place. For art enthusiasts and students of art and sculpture, Museum is an excellent place to study the influence of early 20th century Art in his work.
